The TRP-5000 is without any doubt the best radio for amateur-purposes ever made by Skanti. It consists of four racks in a dedicated 19" cabinet:
- P-5000 power-supply (24V)
- R-5000 receiver
- E-5000 exciter
- T-5000 RF-amplifier
The fully independent transmitter of the TRP-5000 covers the 1.6 - 27 Mc frequency-range. Frequencies are channel-wise stored in bipolar-proms, and can be selected thru the front-side keypad.
Supported modes are USB, AM and CW. Power output is approximately 450 Watt PEP (or 100 Watt carrier in AM) from a pair of (cheap!) 4CX250B's. The TX can be tuned to about any length of wire thanks to the very flexible antenna-tuning configuration that is housed in the RF-amplifier rack.
The remainder of the TRP-5000 is completely solid-state, using readily available transistors and 74xx TTL- ic's.
The receiver of the TRP-5000 covers 100Kc to 30 Mc continuously. Read-out is with 100Hz accuracy, the synthesizer's time base uses a reliable crystal-oven. The same time base is used for the TX too. Every time I put this radio on, I'm pleasantly surprised by the superb RX- audio-quality on AM.
In the years past I've repaired three of these radio's. Should you need help in repairing one yourself, or in programming the TX's PROMS, just drop me a line.
