FT-101e HF-Transceiver No2

[1-Oct-2010]

A second FT-101e has found its way to the shack! Looking great, the plastic foil still on its front plate after some 40 years?! Not in working order, according to the ham who responded to my "looking for FT-101 - dead-or-alive" add.

As I soon found out, both tubes in the final were dead. All voltages present on these tubes, i.e. Vg1~-50V, Vg2~160V, Va~650V. However, Ic=0?! To start the FUN, I removed both tubes (6JS6C), and connected a 10nF/3kV capacitor between G1 of these tubes and the tuning cap in the PI-filter. Meaning feeding the power from the 12BY7A driver tube directly to the PI-network. Estimated output power: 500 milliWatts?
I just made a couple of ssb- qso's and a cw-qso on 80 mtrs - FUN!
